Wild and elemental places, especially on the coast, attracted Carolyn throughout her life. The far West Peninsula in Cornwall was a favourite area to return to over a period of 18 years. Often staying at a farm near Zennor, she would find small ledges below cliffs where she would perch with paints or pastels for hours, capturing the atmosphere of the place and often abstracting into simple form and pattern. Iona, Skye and Mull were also frequently visited, the soft rain never inhibiting her from pastelling outdoors!
