In the last year of her life Carolyn expressed the wish that a Retrospective exhibition be held of the paintings she still had. Her friend Gilly Wyatt Smith was asked to curate this and to ensure that proceeds from sales were given to the Sue Ryder Hospice at Leckhampton Court, Cheltenham, where Carolyn received generous and compassionate treatment.
Although she sold well in exhibitions during her lifetime, a great number of paintings, drawings and sketches had accumulated in her portfolios over the years of her work as a professional artist. Carolyn was a colourist of repute and sought her subjects in many countries although her passion was predominantly for the wild coast of West Cornwall and her beloved Slad Valley. It was with delight that Gilly discovered many gems among them, which sold extremely well at the Retrospective show she curated in Stroud in June 2015, raising many thousands of pounds for the Sue Ryder Hospice.
After months of working through Carolyn’s remaining portfolios, a large collection of newly revealed work has now been selected for sale mainly through this website. Another Retrospective of mainly Cornwall paintings and pastels by Carolyn will be held in September/October 2018, entitled ‘WILD SHORES, CALM HAVENS’. Work available in this show will appear on this website and also www.yewtreegallery.com in time for the exhibition.
